A trial experiment after the swimming pool tragedy in Łódź. Investigators will examine visibility

On September 28, a trial experiment will be held at the swimming pool in Łódź with the participation of a water rescue expert. Its aim will be to recreate the conditions in which the accident occurred, including: checking visibility at the swimming pool at the time of the tragedy. The prosecutor will manage the on-site activities.

The tragedy occurred on July 27 in the Łódź aquapark during a summer swimming course in which twelve children took part. A 7-year-old boy began to drown. According to representatives of the water park, the activities were conducted by an external company and the children were under the care of lifeguards and caregivers.

According to investigators, the boy repeatedly emerged and submerged under water for about 3 minutes, and then remained under water for another 6 minutes without any assistance. He was to be pulled out of the water only by a man who was in the swimming pool at the same time.

After the child was brought to the surface, resuscitation was started immediately. The operation lasted over half an hour and ended with the restoration of vital functions. The 7-year-old was taken to hospital in a serious condition, but died several days later.

Investigators determined that at the time of the tragedy, two rescuers had the opportunity to see the drowning boy. The inspection by the Education Board also showed that the summer camps were not reported to the database of the Ministry of National Education, although such an obligation rested with the organizers.

The prosecutor's office is investigating the case for unintentional causing the child's death. The results of the trial experiment may prove crucial for the further course of the investigation.
