Investigation opened after the discovery of a swastika on a mosque in Brussels

Belgian authorities announced on Sunday the opening of an investigation after the discovery of a swastika on the facade of a mosque in Brussels.

“Attacking a mosque is aiming at the heart of our Muslim fellow citizens in their faith and their identity,” reacted Interior Minister Bernard Quintin, on the social network X.

“Justice must be exemplary”

“Faced with this abject act, total support for the faithful of the mosque and the entire Muslim community in Belgium. We will never tolerate Islamophobia, racism and anti-Semitism on our soil. The police are investigating to find the perpetrators. Justice must be exemplary,” he stressed.

The tag was discovered during the night from Saturday to Sunday on the facade of the El Mouahidine mosque, in Laeken, a district of Brussels.

“An investigation is underway in order to quickly find the perpetrators,” said the mayor, Philippe Close (PS). Founded in 1980, El Mouahidine is one of the historic mosques of Brussels.
