Evacuation in a care and education center in Elbląg after an explosion of chemical substances

On Tuesday morning, children and teenagers were evacuated from the building of the care and education center at Mazurska Street in Elbląg after an explosion occurred in one of the rooms.

RMF FM reporter Piotr Bułakowski reported that fortunately, there was no one in the room. The partition wall was damaged.

Amphetamine-like substances caught fire

As the press officer of the Elbląg police, Superintendent Krzysztof Nowacki, said in the afternoon, pyrotechnicians determined that amphetamine-like substances had caught fire in the 15-year-old's room. There was probably a deodorant nearby, which may have caught fire as a result of being heated by the lamp, he said.

The teenager was not in the room when the fire broke out. The police already talked to the teenager, but - as the officer admitted - the boy was not talkative. The circumstances of the incident are still being investigated.

The youth will not return for the night

From the building at ul. Mazurska, students and teachers were evacuated.

Joanna Urbaniak, spokeswoman for the Municipal Office in Elbląg, informed that everyone was provided with shelter in the municipal care complex at ul. Brave. They will also spend the night from Tuesday to Wednesday there.
