Former mayor of Araripina denies aggression and accuses former deputy of slander after incident during governor's visit

Raimundo Pimentel, in turn, denied having attacked or insulted the former deputy and also filed a police report, accusing Roberta Arraes of slander (see below). He is the husband of state deputy Socorro Pimentel (PSD), government leader in the Legislative Assembly of Pernambuco (Alepe).

Roberta Arraes and Raimundo Pimentel are running this year for the position of state deputy. Although they are part of the base of the Raquel Lyra (PSD) government, they belong to rival political groups in the Sertão do Araripe region.

The confusion occurred during a visit by the governor, who is running for re-election, to a project completed during her administration, which was the Sertão do Araripe Cancer Hospital, in Araripina.

In the police report, Roberta Arraes states that she was approached by Pimentel "in an aggressive and uncontrolled manner", suffering verbal insults aimed at her honor and her status as a woman and candidate.

The document also records allegations of direct physical aggression through intentional pushing with the shoulder, as well as intimidation with the aim of restricting his campaign activities. According to the statement, Raimundo Pimentel "harassed, embarrassed, humiliated and persecuted" Roberta Arraes.

"The perpetrator of the incident approached the reporter and, in an aggressive and uncontrolled manner, began to hurl verbal insults at her honor, questioning her political choice and her status as a female candidate with the clear intention of humiliating her, embarrassing her and disqualifying her political performance in front of those present", says the report in the police report.

On social media, Roberta Arraes published a video in front of the Araripina Police Station and claimed to have been a victim of political gender violence. He stated that Raimundo Pimentel "shouted very angrily" and that the former mayor "does not have any qualifications towards women".

"Today I was surprised inside a place that I designed, which is the Sertão Cancer Hospital. Everyone knows about my struggle, about what we did. When I arrived at the event, at the end of the visit, I was attacked by the former mayor of Araripina Raimundo Pimentel. There is gender-based political violence and I couldn't believe what was happening", she said.

In view of this, she requested the granting of urgent protective measures, in addition to forwarding the investigation to the Electoral Court and the Electoral Public Ministry. g1 questioned the Civil Police about the requests, but received no response until the last update of this report.

Raimundo Pimentel, who in addition to being a former mayor is also a former state deputy, published two videos on social media about the case. In one of them, he states that "they are trying to create a factoid" and denies having attacked Roberta Arraes.

He stated that, on the agenda, several people gathered to take a photo, including him and the former deputy, and that, at that moment, there was a person with a campaign sticker of him with his wife, deputy Socorro Pimentel.

"I only made one comment close to her: 'Why this anger? Why so much anger, right?'. And she left immediately, perhaps embarrassed because I saw the scene. She already left shouting that I was attacking her, that she had been attacked, in a completely unbalanced act, trying to create this factoid. At no time, at no time, was there any physical contact between me and former deputy Roberta Arraes", stated the former mayor of Araripina.

He then published another video, in front of the city police station, and stated that he filed a complaint against his opponent for slanderous reporting. He also stated that he will sue Roberta Arraes for slander and defamation.
