Secret F-35 parts were redirected to Hong Kong instead of the US

Secret parts of the F-35 Lightning II fighter jet were diverted to Hong Kong instead of the US when shipped from Australia.

The US Congress is investigating the incident involving the accidental shipment of classified fighter jet components to Hong Kong.

The Pentagon is working to recover lost fighter jet parts.

WASHINGTON, September 24 – RIA Novosti. The Chinese government has received potentially sensitive parts of the F-35 Lightning II fighter jet that for unclear reasons were diverted to Hong Kong while being shipped to the United States from Australia, Bloomberg reported, citing sources.

Earlier, Politico reported that the US Congress is investigating the incident with the accidental shipment of secret fighter components to Hong Kong. The cargo included a transparent part of the pilot's cockpit containing elements of stealth technology.

“The plane stopped in South Korea on the way to the United States, and from there it was sent to Hong Kong... Later, the Chinese government took possession of these parts, but has not yet returned them,” the publication reports.

It is unclear whether the plane stopped in South Korea on purpose or by mistake and was then diverted to Hong Kong.

During the transportation of the cargo, as noted, the American transnational company United Parcel Service (UPS) was involved.

The Pentagon said it is working to recover lost parts for the fighter jet, manufactured by US company Lockheed Martin.
