The three-day summit between US President Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping came to an end on the 25th. Both men confirmed that they will meet twice more this year. According to the summit minutes released by the White House and China, the two countries agreed to establish an artificial intelligence (AI) dialogue and communication channel to exchange views on AI-related risks and benefits.

White House calls AI superintelligence

The fact list released by the White House on the 25th for the summit and the eight consensuses announced by China pointed out that the two sides agreed to establish an artificial intelligence dialogue and establish a bilateral communication channel for artificial intelligence incidents to exchange views on the risks and benefits related to artificial intelligence. The next dialogue will be held in November. However, the White House used the "superintelligence" advocated by Trump and said that "the leaders of the two countries agreed to use 'superintelligence' instead of 'artificial intelligence'" to describe this emerging technology.

The list released by the White House also states that this week the two countries will formally launch the "U.S.-China Trade Commission" and "U.S.-China Investment Commission" agreed upon at the Beijing summit in May. The former includes a consensus on more preferential tariff treatment for non-sensitive goods worth $30 billion each in both directions. China will import at least 10 million metric tons of coal from the United States each year in 2027 and 28. The United States and China continue to address U.S. concerns about supply chain shortages related to rare earths and other critical minerals, with the goal of ensuring that shipments return to appropriate levels. China's mention in this regard does not include importing coal from the United States.

Agree that Iran must never possess nuclear weapons

The White House fact sheet stated that the leaders of the two countries recalled that the United States and China were allies who fought side by side in World War II; the two agreed to establish a constructive strategic and stable relationship based on respect, fairness and reciprocity, and discussed current global concerns, including Russia, North Korea and Iran. The two agreed that "Iran must not possess nuclear weapons and will not allow any country or institution to impose tolls on international waterways."

Trump and Xi Jinping had tea at the White House on the 25th, and then visited the U.S. National Archives, where they concluded their three-day visit. Trump said during the tea meeting and later in a message that the meeting was "a meeting of friendship, strength and success" for the United States and China. "We have made great progress and it is very positive for both countries." Xi Jinping said that this visit was "very successful" and he was very satisfied. It "enriched the connotation of the positioning of Sino-US relations" and achieved mutually beneficial results in the economic and trade fields. "The future of US-China relations is brighter."

Will meet at APEC and G20 summits

Both men confirmed that they will meet twice more at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in Shenzhen, China, in November and the G20 summit in Miami in December. Trump said in the post, "(We) have accomplished and will accomplish many things, and I look forward to our next meeting."

A statement issued by the White House on the 25th stated that this state visit "demonstrates the United States' position of strength, promotes its economic interests, and reveals that peace and prosperity are most consolidated when the United States plays a leadership role based on its position of strength." In an exclusive interview with the Fox News program on the same day, U.S. Ambassador to China David Pond said, "In a sense, the most important outcome we achieved during this visit is to continue bilateral dialogue."
