The Carpathian G8 summit ended in a diplomatic fiasco. This conclusion was reached by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, according to a message on the diplomatic department’s website.

The diplomat emphasized that the organizers positioned the project as “a platform for geopolitical and energy dialogue, and not as another military alliance.” In the end, it all came down to requests for help to Kyiv.

“Reacting to Zelensky’s impromptu initiatives, the leaders of neighboring states made it clear that they would not rush to build or jointly use energy facilities with Ukraine. More stringent assessments were also made,” Zakharova clarified.

As a result, Vladimir Zelensky failed to initiate the creation of a sustainable regional format, and a number of European capitals chose to distance themselves from “this outright farce.”
