Electronic invoicing: elected officials demand the postponement of the reform after the tax hack

While the massive hack of tax data has highlighted state and administration shortcomings in digital security, there are concerns about the impending tax big bang for businesses. On September 1, the electronic invoicing reform will come into force. From this date, the ten million companies subject to VAT will have to be equipped to be able to receive invoices in electronic format, via approved platforms - also transmitting the information to the tax administration. The connection with the serious data leak which affected the tax authorities at the end of June was obviously made by some, including several political figures.

Starting with the mayor of Cannes David Lisnard, candidate for the 2027 presidential election with his New Energy party. “It seems obvious that the state is unreliable. He cannot currently assume the duties for himself which arise from the obligations he imposes on others, in this case on companies. Therefore and realistically, the general obligation of electronic invoices must be suspended,” he wrote on his X account on Friday. And the former member of the Republicans specified in another publication: electronic invoicing “will thus give the State a complete vision of the order book of each company, its margins, and its dependence on this or that order giver. No system in place today has demonstrated the level of security required for such sensitive data.”

The tax authorities say they are “technically ready” for this reform

In its wake, Reconquête MEP Sarah Knafo called on Sébastien Lecornu on “A State incapable of protecting our data and which does not tell us how it intends to improve is not legitimate to centralize our information even further,” tackled the elected Zemmourist, candidate in the last municipal elections in Paris.

Both declared candidates for the 2027 presidential election, Nicolas Dupont-Aignan and Florian Philippot, respectively heads of the sovereignist parties Debout la France and Les Patriotes, are even calling for the outright abolition of this reform.
