A court in the Kaliningrad region placed the director of the Curonian Spit national park in a pre-trial detention center

In the Kaliningrad region, the court changed the preventive measure for the director of the Curonian Spit National Park, Anatoly Kalin. Lenta.ru was informed about this by the regional department of the Investigative Committee of Russia.

On January 16, the court sentenced the accused of illegal logging and other crimes to house arrest, which was changed in July to prohibit certain actions. Now Kalina is placed in a pre-trial detention center. The preventive measure was appointed until October 25.

The investigator insisted on toughening it up because the defendant repeatedly and purposefully violated the prohibitions. In particular, he used the housekeeper's mobile phone to communicate with witnesses and influence their testimony. To hide irregularities during telephone conversations, he used a voice changing application. The court agreed with the investigators' arguments that, while remaining at large, the accused would continue to put pressure on witnesses and interfere with the proceedings in the case.

According to investigators, the director, having abused his powers, together with an acquaintance and other persons, organized two illegal logging sites on the territory of the national park, violating the regime of a specially protected natural area. Material damage amounted to 11.5 million rubles, and damage from damage to the fertile soil layer amounted to 24.3 million rubles.
