Füchse Berlin defeated VfL Gummersbach 33:28 thanks to strong goalkeeping performance

Thanks to 15 saves from Lasse Ludwig, the Füchse Berlin secured an important home win and remain on the heels of the top group in the handball Bundesliga. The cup winner won against VfL Gummersbach with 33:28 (16:13) in front of 8,201 spectators in the Max-Schmeling-Halle. The best Berlin throwers were Mathias Gidsel and Tim Freihöfer with nine goals each.

The guests initially got off to a better start and took the lead 5-3 after seven minutes. But then the game tipped over. The foxes were now much better in cover and made things more difficult for Gummersbach. And then there was Ludwig in the Berlin goal, who drove the opponent to despair.

8:0 run initiates turnaround

They didn't manage to score for more than ten minutes and the Foxes went on an 8-0 run (11:5). Only when Bertram Obling came into goal for the guests were they able to make important saves. And since the Foxes were no longer working as attentively in defense, Gummersbach was able to reduce the deficit again by halftime.

After the break, the Berliners were able to increase their lead to five goals again. In the final phase, the hosts' defense weakened somewhat, so Gummersbach stuck with it. But the foxes remained unfazed and took the lead to the finish without being in danger.
