(Bucheon = Yonhap News) Reporter Kang Jong-gu = A blasting accident occurred at the construction site of the Metropolitan Rapid Transit (GTX) Line B in Bucheon, Gyeonggi-do, and Bucheon City began to strengthen safety management.

According to Bucheon City on the 16th, the blasting accident occurred at around 6:30 pm on the 12th during blasting work to excavate a vertical shaft near An Jung-geun Park in the Middle East, Wonmi-gu.

A total of 240 explosives, 40 each, had to be detonated in a total of 6 blasts at a 50m point in a vertical cone planned to be 80m deep, but the accident occurred as they exploded unevenly on a scale different from the original plan.

There were no casualties in this accident, but a report was received that the blasting mat covering the upper part of the vertical shaft and part of the scattering dust prevention facility were damaged, and the flying debris fell onto the adjacent road and damaged a vehicle.

After the accident, Bucheon City requested that the construction company resume construction after implementing safety measures such as installing additional blasting mats, reinforcing upper fugitive dust prevention facilities, and installing protective covers on openings.

The construction company is investigating the cause of the blasting on a scale different from the original plan and how the protective facilities were damaged, and plans to resume construction after fully supplementing related safety measures.

The vertical cone at Ahn Jung-geun Park is a structure to install evacuation stairs and ventilation facilities necessary for the construction of the GTX-B line. Related construction began in August last year and is scheduled to continue until August 2031.
