HDF condemns the appointment of a trustee to Halk TV: 'It is the society that is intended to be silenced'

The European Federation of Social Democratic People's Associations (HDF) reacted to the decision to appoint a trustee to Halk TV and stop its broadcasting. In the written statement made by the Federation, it was stated that this decision was an intervention against freedom of the press and expression. In the statement, it was stated that the practice restricts the public's right to information and said, "The appointment of a trustee to Halk TV and the suspension of its broadcast is a clear intervention not only against a television channel but also against the public's right to receive news and learn the facts."

'THE ISSUE IS NOT ONLY PUBLIC TV'

The text also drew attention to the timing of the decision and reminded that Halk TV had previously been at the center of political discussions. The text states that the intervention will have social consequences; "Because the issue is not just Halk TV. There may be a television that is silenced today, but the main thing that is wanted to be silenced is the society itself," it was said.
