Hesse's Interior Minister Poseck questions security partnerships

Hesse's Interior Minister Roman Poseck (CDU) is questioning security policy cooperation between federal states governed by the AfD or the Left.

“The serious question arises as to whether extremely governed countries can still be security partners for other countries,” wrote Poseck in a guest article for the “Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung”. «Extremes are a security risk. There is no doubt about that in my mind.”

The state interior minister was alluding to Berlin, where the Left wants to govern as the election winner, and to Saxony-Anhalt, where the AfD wants to form the government as the election winner.

Poseck explained: “Extreme forces want to transform security policy.” They are traditionally at loggerheads with the security authorities.

“They have a fundamental mistrust of them, which is not surprising because the proportion of people who are themselves the focus of criminal and investigative proceedings as well as the Office for the Protection of the Constitution is traditionally high on the political fringe, both on the right and on the left.”

Data exchange and support for large locations

So far there has been an unrestricted exchange of data and mutual support in large-scale police situations.

“A reduction or even cessation of cooperation would be a serious step that would have to be weighed up,” says Poseck.

However, it is also important to protect everyone's safety and to prevent data about explosive proceedings against right-wing extremists, left-wing extremists or Russian saboteurs from falling into the wrong hands and thus endangering investigations, undercover investigators and employees of the security authorities.

“It is also questionable whether Hessian police officers would continue to comply with a request for support in operational situations in Saxony-Anhalt under the leadership of a right-wing extremist interior minister; “especially when it comes to gathering situations in the context of political extremes,” Poseck continued.

“Hessian police officers are also repeatedly deployed in Berlin. In the case of a policy that promotes anti-Semitism, this support would also need to be examined; especially at events related to the Middle East conflict.”
