The 89th day of the IMM trial continues in Silivri

The IMM trial with 435 defendants, 51 of whom are detained, including the elected Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, continues on its 89th day, being held in the new courtroom of the Marmara Closed Prison in Silivri.

Yesterday, 12 undetained defendants made their defense, and 275 out of 325 undetained people completed their defense. As part of the second hearing, which started on August 17, the defense statements of 50 more people will be taken.

After completing his statements in the "espionage case" that started at 10.30 in the other courtroom in Silivri, Ekrem İmamoğlu left the hall and came to the new hall to present his case to the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality.

Before today's hearing, it was seen that the unarrested former Kültür AŞ General Manager Murat Abbas, the first active repentant of the file, was also in the courtroom to make his defense.

The hearing started after the detained defendants and the court panel took their places.

The first person to make a defense on the 25th day of the second hearing was businessman Remzi Baka, who attended the hearing via SEGBİS.

While Baka stated that he repeated his previous statements, upon the prosecutor's question, he claimed that Cafer Mahiroğlu, the owner of Halk TV, indirectly pressured him on behalf of his friend for the road maintenance tender he wanted to receive.

Later, Tora Beijing, one of Ekrem İmamoğlu's lawyers, took the floor and talked about Baka's statement that he wanted an appointment with İmamoğlu to discuss a tender in 2021. Pointing out that Baka stated the date for which he wanted an appointment as 2021, Beijing said that according to official correspondence, Baka requested an appointment from İmamoğlu in 2024 through his secretary and that the relevant document was in their possession.
