ICE door opened at 200 km/h in Lower Franconia – police are looking for perpetrators

After the dangerous opening of an ICE door at 200 km/h in Lower Franconia, the police are still looking for a perpetrator. The emergency release of the door was damaged, said a federal police spokesman. The investigators have now ruled out a defect.

Deutsche Bahn (DB) had previously ruled out a technical breakdown. However, it is still unclear whether the emergency aid facility was damaged intentionally or accidentally. There is currently no “specific suspect”.

Nobody is missing

The train driver stopped the ICE 528 on the journey from Munich to Dortmund on Tuesday evening after a door in the rear part of the train opened. The train stopped at the entrance portal of a tunnel near Karlstadt (Main-Spessart district). There were 238 passengers and eight DB employees on board. Nobody was injured.

Officials believe no one left or fell out of the train after the incident. According to the spokesman, a search for people and luggage in daylight the day after remained “without results”. Nobody will be missed either.

Focus on passengers in the rear train compartment

That night, the police recorded the personal details of the 120 passengers who were sitting in the back of the train - and questioned them for information and observations.

The fact that only the people in the rear part of the train can be considered as witnesses or suspects is because there were two parts of the train coupled together that were not connected by a passageway. So you couldn't switch from one part of the train to the other during the journey.
