Elderly woman Edileusa Macedo Pestana, aged 72, was buried this Tuesday (15) in Junqueirópolis (SP). She died after being run over during a fight this Sunday (13).
Before the collision, the victim disarmed his 45-year-old son. The suspect drove his car towards the group near the police vehicle.
The collision caused the elderly woman's immediate death. The son suffered open fractures and another 45-year-old woman was also injured and remained hospitalized.
The 30-year-old driver was arrested on Monday (14). He will be charged with intentional homicide and attempted homicide.
Elderly woman Edileusa Macedo Pestana, aged 72, was buried this Tuesday morning (15), at the Municipal Cemetery of Junqueirópolis (SP), after being run over during a street fight involving her son, on Sunday night (13).
Shortly before the crime, the victim intervened in a fight and handed his 45-year-old son's knife to the police. While they were talking next to the Military Police vehicle, the suspect in the dispute drove the car at high speed towards the group.
In addition to Edileusa, who died at the scene from multiple trauma, as reported by g1, her son suffered open fractures and remains hospitalized. A third 45-year-old woman was also hit and rescued.
The 30-year-old driver presented himself to the police, underwent a custody hearing this Monday (14) and was ordered into preventive detention. He will be charged with intentional homicide (when there is intent to kill) and attempted murder.
According to the Military Police, the team was called around 9:50 pm on Sunday (13) to respond to a disagreement between two men, aged 30 and 45.
Upon arriving at the scene, police found the two men attacking each other in the middle of the street. A relative of those involved managed to intervene, and the 30-year-old man left the scene on foot.
Then, the other man grabbed a knife. His 72-year-old mother managed to remove the object and hand it over to the police.
While the team was talking to the woman and her son near the car, a car approached at high speed and headed towards the three people who were also at the scene.
According to the Civil Police, the vehicle, driven by the 30-year-old man, hit the elderly woman and her son. With the impact, the woman was thrown, suffered serious head trauma and died at the scene.
The 45-year-old man was also hit and thrown to the ground. He suffered serious injuries, including open fractures, and was rescued by the Municipal Fire Department and taken to medical care.
A third person, a 45-year-old woman, was also involved in the incident. She remained hospitalized until the last update, but her health status had not been disclosed.
After leaving the scene, the 30-year-old man presented himself spontaneously at the Junqueirópolis Civil Police Station. Afterwards, he was taken to the police station by a Military Police team. The breathalyzer test showed a negative result for alcohol consumption.
The Scientific Police were called and carried out an investigation at the scene. The vehicle used in the collision was seized to assist with investigations. The knife taken from the 45-year-old man and handed over to police was also seized.
The suspect underwent a custody hearing this Monday (14) and had his arrest converted into preventative arrest.
The investigations will be conducted by the Junqueirópolis Civil Police Station, which will analyze the expert reports and other information to clarify the circumstances of the case.
