İmamoğlu and Erdoğan read Sezai Karakoç's poem 'They Think That' on the same day

The lines from Sezai Karakoç's poem "They Think That", which Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality President Ekrem İmamoğlu read while requesting release at the hearing on September 3, were also read by AKP President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan at the end of his speech at the UN General Assembly.

While IMM President Ekrem İmamoğlu requested release at the 75th hearing of the IMM case held on September 3, he read lines from Sezai Karakoç's poem "They Think That".

In his defense, İmamoğlu said, "We came from the arrest of my lawyer, to the arrest of my defense, and then to the arrest of my book. What is the next stage?" He then read the following lines from the poem:

“They think that if we keep silent, there will be no problem.

However, if we remain silent, history will not remain silent.

They think that if they get rid of us, there will be no problem.

However, if they get rid of us, they will not be able to get rid of the guilt.

Even if they escape the torment of conscience, they will not be able to escape the torment of history.

"Even if they escape the torment of history, they will not be able to escape the wrath of God."

At the end of his speech at the 81st General Assembly of the United Nations, President Erdoğan read lines from the same poem by Sezai Karakoç.

Erdoğan said, "They think that if we remain silent, there will be no problem. However, if we remain silent, history will not remain silent. If history remains silent, the truth will not remain silent."

It was seen that former Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım, who was in the hall when Erdoğan read the poem, became emotional and could not hold back his tears.
