Letter to the editor. Let the Left Party into the government

I am not a leftist, but a social democrat. Nevertheless, I think that V should get the chance to be part of a government with S, C and MP. Show what the party stands for, implement policies and be accountable for the results.

The left party was one of the winners of the election and won trust in excluded areas where many feel a great distance from power. The party mobilized voters where many residents have an immigrant background. It should prompt self-examination in other parties. What did V do that they themselves failed to do?

The Center Party says no to V in the government. Even within S there is resistance. But V's mandate is needed for the four-party majority that could form a government.

What makes today's V less democratic than the parties that want to close the door? V and its predecessors have existed in the Riksdag for over a hundred years. History must be examined, but today's party must also be judged by its policies and actions.

Is V becoming less democratic because the party defends the rights of the Palestinian people? And what does the same yardstick say about those who defend Israel's actions in Gaza, where the UN Independent Commission of Inquiry has judged that Israel committed genocide? Solidarity with Palestinians is not a democratic shortcoming. The criticism against V must be specified.

No one has an automatic right to ministerial posts. Everyone has to negotiate and compromise. This also applies to those who draw red lines.

S can, among other things, retain the post of Prime Minister and the ministerial posts for financial policy, foreign policy, defence, the Ministry of Justice, the labor market, integration and education. The leadership becomes clear, even if the party lets go of several cabinet posts.

V can be given responsibility for welfare, social insurance and higher education. C leader Elisabeth Thand Ringqvist can become deputy prime minister and a center party as foreign trade minister can be responsible for business, energy and rural areas. In that case, the Green Party would be given responsibility for migration, environment and culture.

Give V real responsibility! Then the party also has to answer for the funding, the priorities and the promises that cannot be implemented. It would be a trial worthy of the name.

We now have the chance to break the deadlocks of bloc politics and form a more modern, forward-looking government where different ideologies meet. It would show strength and political maturity, and could become an example for other countries.

No party has its own majority. It requires new ways of thinking, sharing power and conducting politics.

Let the red lines become a rainbow-colored belief in possibilities - four parties with different beliefs who, together with us citizens, build a new Sweden.
