They investigate a police officer in Carcassonne after a video of an attack was released

A police officer has been placed under investigation after the publication of a video in which he is seen throwing a person of migrant origin to the ground, in Carcassonne, a city in the south of France. The events occurred on June 21 of this year, when the Music Festival was being celebrated in France, but the author of the video decided to publish it after the racist, homophobic and misogynistic conversations of one of the local police officers were leaked.

The person attacked, identified only by his name, Yousef, 29, died 13 days later of an overdose. Until now, “there is no causal relationship between the events filmed and the death that occurred later,” according to a statement from the local Prosecutor's Office to which Le Monde has had access.

Officers responded to the scene at 10:30 in response to a noise complaint, according to France Info. In the video, Yousef is seen approaching one police officer before another grabs his shoulders from behind and throws him to the pavement. When he falls, he hits his head on the ground, while the rest of those present scold him. The police surround him and Yousef remains holding his head for several minutes until the officers lift him up.

The incident has become topical again after one of the police officers who picks up Yousef in the video has been implicated in last week's scandal over the leaking of racist, homophobic and misogynistic conversations. The agent, a 50-year-old former military officer, mistakenly recorded more than six hours with the camera on his chest, which he believed was turned off. The leak has led to an inspection of the Carcassonne Municipal Police by the General Inspection of Administration (IGA).
