Iranian Foreign Minister Erakchi announced that he presented a 7-day nuclear meeting plan to the USA

According to the New York Times newspaper, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Erakchi, who held a press conference on the margins of the 81st General Assembly of the United Nations (UN), said that the Tehran administration proposed a seven-day plan to Washington to stop the conflicts, open the Strait of Hormuz to traffic and then start comprehensive nuclear negotiations.

Erakçi stated that the offer in question is very similar to the commitments in the memorandum of understanding reached between the USA and Iran in June, but collapsed in a short time, and that Washington was ready to be put into practice immediately if accepted, and said:

"Through mediators, we presented a plan to the United States that, if certain conditions are met, the Strait of Hormuz will be opened at the end of the seventh day and negotiations will begin again."

Finally, Erakchi added that it would be better to reach the agreement before the US midterm elections.

An American official with knowledge of the talks argued that the administration was conducting positive and constructive contacts through mediators, but that the United States would not rush to reach an agreement.

It was claimed that Iran wanted the release of its frozen funds worth 12 billion dollars

The news pointed out that this proposal of Iran came to the agenda at a time when US President Donald Trump and Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkiyan were exchanging harsh messages from the UN podium.

In the newspaper's report, it was reminded that Trump threatened to "destroy" Iran if there was no agreement, and Pezeshkian said that his country could not be bullied.

Within the scope of the conditions of the plan; It was claimed that all conflicts, including Lebanon, should stop for seven days, the USA should release frozen funds belonging to Iran, estimated to be at least 12 billion dollars, lift sanctions on Iranian oil and end the naval blockade.

The report claimed that following these steps, the Strait of Hormuz would be opened on the last day and nuclear negotiations would begin immediately.

Trump was reported to have said that his primary goal is to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons, and that he will achieve this either through a diplomatic compromise or with new attacks.

The news pointed out that the two countries have been at war for about seven months. It was reminded that the war started in late February with air strikes by the USA and Israel that killed Iran's religious leader Ali Khamenei and his military command, and that Trump initially said that the war would last a few weeks, but the war had widespread effects on global oil, energy and food prices.

Making a statement regarding the diplomatic contacts, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that the three-hour meeting held under the mediation of Qatar did not result in an agreement.

On the other hand, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Erakchi, who will continue his contacts in New York until September 28, exchanged messages with US Special Representative Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner via Qatar on September 22. Following Erakchi, who described the meeting as "productive", Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Ismail Bekayi also announced that new contacts were at the door.

Vaez emphasized that the plan is attractive for Trump because it will end a war that does not find public support and will reduce energy prices before the midterm elections, and at the same time, it brings back conditions favorable to Iran.

Vaez also noted that narrowing the timetable for nuclear negotiations presents an attractive option for Trump.
