Meloni announces the reform of technical and professional institutes: they become 'Technological High Schools' and 'Professional High Schools'

The Prime Minister, on her social networks, explains the government's choice to rename the technical and professional institutes: "There is a prejudice which is an injustice towards hundreds of thousands of children and their teachers, and a damage for Italy"

"There is a prejudice that, in Italy, has lasted for decades: those who choose a technical or professional institute make a second-class choice compared to those who enroll in high school". This is the starting point for the message with which Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni spoke on social media about the government's choice to rename the technical and professional institutes with the new name of "Technological High Schools" and "Professional High Schools", reached in the Council of Ministers on 24 September. "It is not a simple change of 'plate' - explained the Prime Minister -. It is a cultural revolution, which finally recognizes those paths as having the same dignity as the others".

"Prejudice damage to Italy"

For Meloni, the prejudice against technical and professional institutes "is an injustice towards hundreds of thousands of children and their teachers, and a detriment to Italy. Because our productive fabric obtains the results it obtains thanks to those who know what to do: technicians, mechatronics, chemists, agricultural experts, surveyors, cooks, artisans, computer scientists, who are splendidly trained". Meloni added: "For us, schools are of equal value, as are the children who attend them. And, together with this reform, also comes the revision of the number of hours of technical institutes and 10 million euros more for the campuses of the technological-professional training chain".

"No choice will make you less"

The Prime Minister then claimed responsibility for the work done so far by the government: "We thus continue on the path taken with the Made in Italy high school and the '4+2' reform, which comes into force this year and which gives every child a double opportunity: you can specialize in an Its Academy, or immediately enter the job market. This means putting school alongside the work that exists, instead of leaving companies to search for months for profiles that no one is training. And to the children who, next year, will have to choose what school to do I say a simple thing: no choice will make you less. Italy needs you exactly as you are, without labels and prejudices".
