The trial of the defendants who allegedly threw his wife from the balcony in Izmir has begun.

The trial of her husband Okan Güler (34) and his 2 friends, who were alleged to have thrown Aylin Güler (30), who fell from the balcony of her 4th floor flat and was seriously injured, in Karabağlar district of Izmir, has begun. The detained defendants denied the accusations and claimed that Aylin Güler attempted suicide. Aylin Güler said, "When an argument broke out, he grabbed me by my legs and threw me off the balcony."

According to DHA, the incident took place on March 11, around 08:00, in Karabağlar district, Bahçelievler District, 509/6 Street. Aylin Güler fell from the balcony of her apartment on the 4th floor and was seriously injured.

Upon notice, health and police teams were dispatched to the address. Aylin Güler, who was taken to Atatürk Training and Research Hospital by ambulance, was treated. It was stated that Aylin Güler, who was discharged after her treatment, was subjected to violence by her husband, therefore she filed a complaint, they were in the process of divorcing, and she returned to her father's house a while ago. It was stated that the couple had applied to the police many times before, and therefore their 8-year-old daughter was temporarily taken under state protection. During the investigation, Atılım Ekren (42) and Emine Acar Ekren (48), who allegedly acted together with Okan Güler, were detained and arrested.

Following the investigation, Izmir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office completed the indictment it prepared against Okan Güler and two people who allegedly acted together. Okan Güler, one of the defendants, was sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment for the crime of 'premeditated murder attempt', up to 2 years for the crime of 'qualified persistent pursuit in case of participation', up to 7 years for the crime of 'depriving the person of liberty against the spouse by more than one person with a gun', up to 15 years for the crime of 'armed plunder', up to 1 year for the crime of 'simple wounding against the spouse', 'armed plunder together'. A lawsuit was filed for the crime, demanding a prison sentence of up to 15 years. The indictment requested aggravated life imprisonment for Atılım Ekren for 'participating in the crime of attempted intentional murder against a spouse', up to 7 years in prison for 'participating in the crime of depriving a person of liberty by more than one person with a gun through force and trickery', and up to 2 years in prison for 'persistent pursuit in the event of participation', and aggravated life imprisonment for Emine Acar Ekren for 'participation in the crime of attempted intentional murder against a spouse'.

The trial of the defendants started today at the Izmir 4th High Criminal Court. In addition to the detained defendants, Aylin Güler and the lawyers of the parties attended the hearing. The first word at the hearing was given to Okan Güler. Rejecting the accusations against him, Okan Güler said, "A divorce case was filed. There were constant problems between us. I did not hear from him for 3.5 months. My wife went to the police station and gave a statement, claiming that I threatened her. I saw my wife in front of the police station and followed her. I learned that my daughter was taken to the child protection institution. I called my wife to pick up our daughter from the institution, but she did not accept. Then, with the intervention of our mutual friends, we went to the house of the other defendants. An argument broke out between us and Aylin used pepper spray. I I slapped him and shouted, 'Don't be a disgrace! Are you going to kill me?' he shouted. I didn't have a gun or knife with me. We started arguing again. He went out to the balcony with Atılım to smoke. So I went to the toilet. Then Emine shouted, 'Aylin committed suicide, run.' The breakthrough was at the balcony threshold. "I saw Aylin lying on the ground, I did not see her falling," he said. Other detained defendants who were given the floor at the hearing also denied the accusations against them, argued that Aylin Güler had attempted suicide, and requested release.

Aylin Güler, who took the floor at the hearing, stated that she had reported Okan Güler to the police 56 times and said, "He always gave hope, saying 'Everything will be fine.' I reported Okan to the police 56 times. He also threatened to kill my mother. He was accusing me of cheating on him. He called me one night and said, 'If you don't come, I will kill the girl, I have nothing to lose.' Atılım was the intermediary to help him pick up his daughter, who was in the child welfare institution. When we met with him, Okan was with him. "There was an argument between us and he slapped me a lot. Then he took me to Atılım's house and beat me. After a while, Atılım and Okan went out to smoke. When the argument broke out, he grabbed me from the balcony."

Witnesses were also given the floor at the hearing. The couple's 9-year-old child said that his father used physical violence against his mother. Aylin's mother, E.K., who was heard as a witness. He also stated that his daughter was systematically exposed to verbal and physical violence.

After the defense and statements, the interim decision was announced. The committee decided to eliminate the deficiencies in the file and continue the detention of the defendants and postponed the hearing.
