Izmir taxi driver murder: Doğuş Meşe is on trial in detention

F.A., who was detained for killing taxi driver Deniz Örer (52) in Izmir, went to Doğuş Meşe (24) after the incident. In his statement as a witness, he said: "He came in a taxi. I asked who he hijacked the taxi from. He said, 'I hijacked my father's taxi'. I got in the car and we started to drive. But he couldn't drive the car properly. He said he drank 25 synthetic pills."

The incident took place on March 9, around 23.30, in Hurşidiye District 1308 Street. Doğuş Meşe got into the taxi with plate number 35 T 7058, driven by Deniz Örer, who is married and has one child, as a customer. Allegedly; After a while, an argument broke out between the parties due to the fee. As the argument escalated, Doğuş Meşe killed Örer with a gun, threw his body out of the vehicle and then fled in a taxi. After a while, Meşe got out of the vehicle and continued to escape on foot. As a result of the work of the police teams, he was caught with a gun, the weapon of crime. Deniz Örer was buried one day later in Izmir, with the intense participation of his colleagues. Doğuş Meşe, who was referred to the courthouse after his procedures at the police station, was arrested in the courthouse. It turned out that the incident was reflected on the taxi's in-car camera. It was learned that Örer's son was also a football player in Bucaspor.

INDICTMENT HAS BEEN ACCEPTED

In the indictment prepared after the completion of the investigation initiated after the incident, life imprisonment was requested for Meşe for the crime of 'deliberate murder', up to 15 years in prison for the crime of 'looting with a gun at night', and up to 4 years in prison for the crime of 'purchasing or carrying or possessing unlicensed firearms and bullets'. It was noted that the suspect's claim that he committed the incident because Örer swore at him was 'to alleviate his crime'. It was also emphasized in the indictment that there was no situation that required Örer to swear. The indictment was accepted at the Izmir 4th High Criminal Court.

'I THOUGHT HE WAS ACTING TO POWE UP'

Meşe's trial continued today at the Izmir 4th High Criminal Court. While the detained defendant Doğuş Meşe attended the hearing via Audio and Video Information System (SEGBİS), the taxi driver's wife Ayşe Örer, lawyers and taxi tradesmen were present in the hall. At the hearing, Meşe's friend F.A. went to her after committing the murder. He was heard as a witness. Describing the day of the incident, F.A. said, "I was a drug addict. On the day of the incident, he called me on the phone and said he wanted to hang out. He usually used synthetic pills. He sent me a photo of drugs. He came in a taxi. I asked who he hijacked the taxi from. He said, 'I hijacked my father's taxi.' I got in the car and started driving, but he could not drive the car properly. He said he drank 25 synthetic pills. We went to the dealer we knew before. We paid around 1200 lira and bought drugs. While we were chatting, we were on the phone. He called someone and said, 'I killed someone and threw him on the street. I thought he was faking it. He showed me the gun and told me that we had to go home. He didn't accept it at first, then he gave me 500 lira. I took a taxi and went home. I thought he was acting to show off.

Arrested defendant Doğuş Meşe, who argued that he could not express himself well at the previous hearing, said, "I do not agree with the witness. I did not talk to anyone that day and ask for advice." After the defense and statements, the interim decision was announced. The committee decided to continue Meşe's detention and postponed the hearing to January 21, 2027.
