Gendarmerie uses artificial intelligence-supported identification system in national parks

Provincial Gendarmerie Command teams benefit from locally and nationally developed technological opportunities in national and nature parks, road checkpoints, facility entrances and crowded event areas, especially during periods when visitor density increases.

The artificial intelligence-supported system, developed by the Gendarmerie General Command Communication Electronics and Information Systems Directorate and produced by ASELSAN, supports the work of gendarmerie teams at points where there is intense human mobility.

With the system, which allows identification by comparing facial images taken from cameras with recorded data, the results obtained by querying different databases are transferred to the tablet used by the personnel on duty.

When a person for whom a search or arrest warrant is issued is detected, the system gives an alert to the tablet, enabling gendarmerie personnel to take action against this person.

"Karagöz" works on a closed circuit and acts in accordance with the Personal Data Protection Law (KVKK).

In this way, the aim is for gendarmerie teams to identify wanted people in crowded areas without affecting the daily lives of citizens as much as possible and to initiate the necessary legal proceedings.

The system, which has been used for about 6 months in crowded places such as Lake Abant and Yedigöller national parks and Gölcük Nature Park, allows law enforcement to carry out their work to identify wanted people more quickly and easily.

"The application is important for security"

Mustafa Kaleli, who came to Gölcük Nature Park with his family and friends from Ankara, said that he saw the application here for the first time.

Stating that artificial intelligence-supported security applications give people confidence, Kaleli said, "It makes us proud that there are artificial intelligence-supported solutions that can ensure the safety of everyone. It is also very nice that this is designed and produced in our country. Using the product in crowded places to ensure security makes us feel much safer." he said.

Kaleli stated that it is a matter of pride that domestic technology products are used by security units such as police and gendarmerie.

Selçuk Özaslan, who came to Gölcük with his family from Kırıkkale, stated that they visited the nature park for the second time and noted that they loved the nature of the region.

Expressing that he was pleased to see the gendarmerie teams and this system in the park, Özaslan stated that the application is important in terms of security.
