Court authorizes return of VRS to public transport in Aracaju after SMTT blockade

Magistrate Gustavo Adolfo Plech Pereira highlighted in the decision that, although SMTT denied the existence of sharing the lines, the municipality did not present documents capable of proving the allegation.

VRS obtained the right to return to the Collective Public Transport System of Aracaju and the Metropolitan Region after a court decision. Previously, company workers had been prevented from putting buses on the streets after City Hall removed the company from the system, understanding that it was not providing the service properly.

SMTT informed, in a note, that there are no Boa Vista buses operating on the lines assigned to VRS.

The note also says that there was no deliberate creation of overlapping lines, but rather the execution of operational measures formalized by service orders, within the body's responsibilities.

On August 20, more than 100 buses from the company VRS Transportes were prevented from circulating in Aracaju. The blockade with SMTT and Municipal Guard vehicles was carried out one day after the announcement by Aracaju City Hall about the arrival of new buses to operate by the company Boa Vista, which became part of the system in the capital and metropolitan region.

The municipal management had already appealed the decision that determined the return of the company which, according to the municipal management, was not providing the service properly.

The municipal management had already informed that the change of company occurred due to operational problems at VRS. The replacement is based on Decree No. 8,042/2025, signed by Mayor Emília Corrêa, which establishes new rules for the useful life and transition to the operation of municipal public transport companies. The rule prohibits the circulation of combustion buses that are more than 12 years old and electric vehicles that are more than 15 years old.

On August 24, representatives and workers from VRS Transportes participated in a meeting with members of the Metropolitan Transport Consortium. The meeting took place at Palácio de Despachos, headquarters of the state government.
