Work has begun for the reconstruction of the Qamishli-Nusaybin Border Gate

The Syrian administration announced that work has begun to rebuild the Qamishli-Nusaybin Border Gate, which was closed in 2012 and is planned to be the seventh border gate between Türkiye and Syria.

EXCAVATION AND TECHNICAL WORKS HAVE STARTED AT THE BORDER GATE

Mazin Alluş, Director of International Relations and Cooperation of the Syrian General Border Gates and Customs Administration, said in a statement to AA that excavation, leveling and technical preparation works have been started at the Qamishli-Nusaybin Border Gate within the scope of works to improve the infrastructure of the border gates.

Alluş stated that the works are part of a comprehensive plan covering the renewal and development of the border gate's infrastructure. He stated that the project will be implemented gradually in accordance with the technical and implementation programs.

Alluş said, "We are officially starting the work to build and equip this vital border gate that will connect Syria and Türkiye. The gate will be the seventh border crossing point between the two countries." he said.

CUSTOMS AND TRANSIT TRANSPORT AREAS WILL BE REGULATED

Stating that in the first phase of the project, import and export cargo areas and areas reserved for transit transportation will be arranged, Alluş stated that the border gate management building, passenger lounges, customs units and personnel housing will also be built.

Alluş noted that the basic infrastructure necessary for the operation of the border gate, which will have an area of ​​approximately 558 thousand square meters, will also be created.

TRADE AND TRANSPORTATION IS TARGET

Emphasizing that the Qamishli-Nusaybin Border Gate is an important project in terms of increasing trade volume and supporting the Syrian economy, Alluş said that the gate will contribute to the development of transit transportation through Syria.

Alluş stated that the new border gate will also contribute to reducing the density at existing crossing points. He stated that the gate is aimed to shorten the distance and transit times for citizens and transporters.
