KiKa children's news changes reporting after AfD interview criticism

The editorial team of the logo! children's news on the children's channel (KiKa) of ARD and ZDF reacts to ongoing criticism of interviews with AfD top candidates for the state elections in Saxony-Anhalt and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

The logo! editorial team will “accompany the election in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania in a different way,” said ZDF. The statements from interviews with Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig (SPD) and Enrico Schult, the AfD's top candidate, would this time be classified in an editorial article.

The ongoing criticism was sparked by an interview with the Saxony-Anhalt AfD top candidate Ulrich Siegmund in the logo! program on September 3rd. The former state student representative in Saxony-Anhalt, Lucienne Balke, interviewed Siegmund and Prime Minister Sven Schulze (CDU). The editorial team juxtaposed the answers of the two politicians in an article. The editorial team published the full-length interviews, each lasting around half an hour, online.

A petition started by students demanding that the interview with Enrico Schult not be broadcast in this format on the children's channel has so far been signed by around 296,000 people.
