Magdalena Andersson hands back the task of forming a government

Speaker Andreas Norlén gave Magdalena Andersson (S) on September 18 the task of investigating the possibility of forming a government. On Monday, the S-leader returned the assignment just hours before the speaker election was to take place.

The reason was that the Left Party announced on Sunday that they are backing Tidöpartierna's speaker candidate and the moderate Andreas Norlén.

In the Riksdag election on September 13, the red-green parties received 176 seats, while the Tidö parties received 173. The Left Party's decision to support Norlén as Speaker gives him a majority.

During the period that Magdalena Andersson (S) has had the probe mission, the Center Party has continued to be clear with its red line that the Left Party should not form a government, while V demands to sit in a government.

This is happening now:

● On Monday, there was a roll call in the new Riksdag and the election of a new Speaker and three Deputy Speakers.

● The Speaker who is elected must now give a party leader the task of trying to form a government because the S leader Magdalena Andersson has returned the probe task.

● The speaker has four attempts to get a candidate for prime minister through. The Riksdag must then vote on the Prime Minister proposed by the Speaker. The candidate is approved if fewer than 175 members vote no or abstain.

● If the fourth proposal is voted down, the Speaker must immediately decide on an additional election.

● If the Riksdag has agreed on a candidate for prime minister, he can decide which ministers will form part of the government.

● A formal change of government takes place at a so-called succession council at the castle where the head of state is the chairman.
