One is charged with fatally assaulting Christian Zedig in Copenhagen

It was in connection with the soccer World Cup that 32-year-old Christian Zedig and a friend were in Copenhagen. In the evening, Norway played against the Ivory Coast and the friends had gone to Islands Brygge, where the match was shown on the big screen.

Surrendered himself to the police

In connection with an argument, the man now charged is suspected of having delivered a strong punch and Christian Zedig was then seriously injured. He was later pronounced dead at a hospital in Copenhagen.

The accused man handed himself over to the Danish police after the fatal beating.

The Copenhagen police state that the man is charged with assault, after delivering a punch to the head and neck. The blow caused a rupture of the carotid artery. Zedig died after three days in hospital.

The man is also accused of throwing two beer cans at a group of people where Zedig was. Another man was hit by the cans.

Two more men are suspected of involvement in the fight, but any trials against them are being held separately.

The trial is scheduled for October 7.
