Protester is run over during pro-Lula rally in BH; see video

According to a report from a civil guard to the Military Police (PM), the driver of the car, a yellow Up, ran the red light at high speed and hit the victim, who fell. The driver continued his journey without providing assistance. A video recorded the moment of the collision.

The incident was recorded around 6:30 pm, at the intersection of Rua da Bahia and Rua Tupinambás. The victim told police that he was in the crosswalk when he was hit and that he felt pain in his legs. She was taken to João XXIII Emergency Hospital.

The driver was located on Rua da Bahia, near Lourdes, in the Center-South Region, and stated that, before the incident, participants in the demonstration threw water bottles and drink cans at the car, hitting his wife.

The man also stated that his children, aged 8 and 10, were "panicked" and that he decided to speed up the vehicle for fear of aggression. He also said that he did not notice the collision and that he intended to call the emergency service when he arrived home.

The driver was taken to the police station. According to the Civil Police, he was interviewed and arrested for attempted murder.
