11-Year-Old Unsolved Murder in Manisa Clarified by JASAT

NEWS CENTER - The 11-year-old unsolved file regarding the death of Meral Babacan, whose body was found on the Akhisar-Manisa Highway in Manisa on July 6, 2015, was clarified with the work of the Gendarmerie Crime Investigation Team (JASAT) teams.

The following details were shared by the Ministry of Internal Affairs;

"JASAT shed light on the 11-year-old murder with the detail of the mirror frame. The mystery behind the death of a young woman whose body was found on the roadside in Manisa in 2015 was solved based on the frame of a car mirror found by the Gendarmerie Crime Investigation Team (JASAT) teams at the scene. As a result of the work carried out by the Manisa Provincial Gendarmerie Command, under the coordination of the Gendarmerie General Command Public Security Department and the Manisa Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, on 6 July 2015. The body of a person named Meral Babacan was found on the Akhisar-Manisa Highway, but the perpetrator of the incident could not be identified. JASAT teams re-examined the file whose perpetrator remained unknown.

THE ONLY EVIDENCE UNLOCKED THE INVESTIGATION YEARS LATER

Expert teams examined the plastic piece, which was the only evidence found at the scene, and determined that this piece was the side mirror frame of a vehicle belonging to a brand and model. Based on the mirror frame detail, JASAT teams made time-distance measurements on the KGYS cameras of the day of the incident and examined the records second by second.

KGYS IMAGES WERE EXAMINED SECOND BY SECOND

As a result of the studies, it was confirmed that the victim walked towards the workplace after getting off the bus, and it was determined that a vehicle identical to the mirror frame found at the scene was passing through the area at the time of the accident.

THE CAR HAS BEEN TRACED THROUGH THE YEARS

The teams traced the vehicle and determined that the car was sold to another citizen in Şanlıurfa in 2017. During an interview with the current owner, it was confirmed that the vehicle's side mirror had been replaced in the past. R.Ç., who was driving the vehicle on the date of the incident. The person named was caught in an operation organized by JASAT teams and was arrested by the court.

Our JASAT teams handle unsolved incidents one by one retrospectively. We continue to shed light on the crimes committed years ago by re-examining them with the special teams formed.
