At least eleven dead in suicide attack in Pakistan

According to authorities, at least eleven people were killed in an explosion in northwestern Pakistan. More than 30 people were injured, a local police official said on Saturday. According to initial findings, it was a suicide attack that was aimed at a police checkpoint, said police officer Kaleem Ullah. It was initially unclear who exactly carried out the attack.

According to police, the death toll could rise. The incident took place in Darazinda area of ​​Dera Ismail Khan district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in the border area with Afghanistan.

The security situation in Pakistan has increasingly deteriorated in recent months. On September 18, a terrorist attack in the Pakistani city of Kohat killed at least 22 people, including several attackers. The Islamist coalition Ittehad-ul Mujahideen Pakistan claimed responsibility for the attack. It is led by a man with connections to the Al-Qaeda terrorist network. After the attack in Kohat, the Pakistani military attacked targets in neighboring Afghanistan from the air.

In this context, the government in Islamabad repeatedly accuses the Taliban in Afghanistan of harboring terrorists who carry out attacks in Pakistan. Kabul rejects the allegations and speaks of Pakistan's internal problems.

The conflict between the neighboring countries broke out openly about a year ago. As a result, Pakistan closed its border crossings with its neighboring country - with serious consequences for the supply of food and humanitarian goods in Afghanistan. At the end of February this year, Pakistan's defense minister declared an "open war" with Afghanistan. Since then, Islamabad has repeatedly carried out attacks against targets in Afghanistan, especially after attacks in Pakistan.
