Although everyone who has worked at least one day is entitled to a pension in Poland, the amount of the benefit received may be very low. To obtain the guaranteed minimum pension, currently amounting to PLN 1,978.49 per month, women must have at least 20 years of work experience and men 25 years. That's why there are many people who receive much lower, symbolic amounts.

According to the latest ZUS data, there are retirees in Poland who receive benefits not in Polish zlotys, but in groszes. The lowest pensions - 2 groszy per month - are paid to two people from the Lower Silesian and Lublin voivodeships. A pensioner from the West Pomeranian Voivodeship receives only PLN 4, PLN 5 - from Podlasie, PLN 6 - from Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship, PLN 7 - from Wielkopolska, and PLN 8 - from Podkarpacie.

Care allowance – who can receive it?

However, the Social Insurance Institution provides for the possibility of receiving a care allowance for retirees. It is available to people who are completely unable to work and live independently or are over 75 years of age.

In the case of seniors who have reached the age of 75, the procedure is simplified - there is no need to present a health certificate or submit additional applications.

ZUS automatically grants and adds an allowance, which is paid together with the monthly pension. From March 1, 2026, the care allowance amounts to PLN 366.68.

Record pensions – who gets the most?

At the other extreme are retirees who receive monthly benefits exceeding several dozen thousand zlotys. The highest pension in the country goes to a resident of the Silesian Voivodeship - their account receives as much as PLN 54,072 per month. The second highest result also belongs to a Silesian, who receives 53.5 thousand. zloty. The third position is taken by a pensioner from the Masovian Voivodeship with a monthly benefit of PLN 45.3 thousand. zloty.
