After surgery for many injuries, Mr. Nguyen Viet Quang, 40 years old, the only survivor of the massacre in Binh Minh commune, was out of danger.
On September 4, Mr. Quang's health became more stable but he was still tired. His wife, Ms. Ho Thi Mai, 36 years old, along with her 11-year-old son and 2-year-old daughter, died. His relatives have not yet informed him of this loss.
Mr. Quang's family does not know or have any conflicts with Nguyen Duc Anh, 21 years old. According to initial testimony, on the morning of September 3, Duc Anh brought a knife to the house of a young woman who had a relationship with him but was unable to break in. Then he climbed into Mr. Quang's house next door and committed the crime.
'I begged but was still cut'
Mr. Quang said that night the family went to bed early as usual. At dawn, he woke up to a loud noise from the neighbor's house and then heard many noises on the corrugated iron roof.
He went out to the porch to ask and was told by the neighbor that there was a stranger upstairs, so he immediately went back and locked the door.
When he went upstairs to check, he discovered a young man already in the house. He ran to the kitchen to get a knife, but before he could do anything, this person rushed forward to attack.
"Before I could do anything, this person rushed at me, stabbing and slashing wildly," he said.
The two sides struggled in the house. Mr. Quang then called his wife to open the door so she could run out and call for help.
After running about 15 meters, Duc Anh caught up with him and continued to attack until he collapsed on the road. "I begged and begged but he still cut me," Mr. Quang said.
Transfuse 20 units of blood to save the victim
According to the leader of Thong Nhat General Hospital, when he was taken to the emergency room, Mr. Quang lost a lot of blood and his blood pressure was 0. The most serious injury was in his arm, causing an artery to be severed, and his arm was almost severed.
The hospital activated a red alert, mobilized the surgical team and used 20 units of blood to save the patient. Currently, Mr. Quang is out of danger and is being resuscitated.
Doctor Nguyen Dinh Loi, in charge of the Department of Anesthesiology and Resuscitation, said that in addition to serious damage to the left arm, the patient also suffered injuries to the head, eyes, mouth, neck, chest and abdomen but the severity was not too severe.
"When the patient was hospitalized, we thought it would be difficult to save him because his injuries were too severe, but the team was determined to regain the victim's life," said Dr. Loi.
Initially, the investigation agency determined that yesterday morning, Nguyen Duc Anh, after drinking alcohol, went to the house of a young woman living next to Mr. Quang's family. He took a knife, climbed onto the roof, pried open the skylight window to find a way to break in.
At around 1:45 a.m., the girl's father heard a noise, turned on the power to check and discovered Duc Anh holding a knife on the roof. He said his daughter and he had broken up and asked to leave. However, Duc Anh continued to pry open the skylight window and announced that he would kill the whole family. Frightened, the girl's father locked the doors and called the police.
Duc Anh now climbed over to Mr. Quang's house, opened the second floor door, and broke in to find a way to go to the girl's house. When Mr. Quang discovered it, he rushed in and stabbed and slashed. The suspect then locked the gate and murdered Mr. Quang's wife and children.
According to Binh Minh Commune Police, after receiving the news, the commune police arrived 6 minutes later. When they arrived, the authorities found Mr. Quang lying down on the street, the house had been locked by the perpetrator. The police then persuaded Duc Anh to open the door and arrested him.
