Briefing by Prime Minister Donald Tusk at the Government Security Center after the Russian attacks

At 5:00 p.m., a briefing began at the seat of the Government Centre for Security, attended by Prime Minister Donald Tusk, the ministers of the Ministry of Interior and Administration and the Ministry of National Defence, as well as the commanders of various services. This was a response to the attacks by the Russian Federation in the immediate vicinity of Poland, which occurred overnight and in the early morning hours.

Prime Minister Donald Tusk stated that “the escalation of Russian actions is becoming a reality, and examples of such actions are occurring closer to our border.” He noted that attempts to paralyze border crossings are not the first incidents of this kind.

We must be aware that from today onwards, we will operate in a significantly enhanced mode. We know, and can expect, that the coming weeks and months will be a period of intensified actions by Russia. Unfortunately, we cannot rule out the possibility that the escalation will also affect our territory, the Prime Minister said.

I hope that the worst-case scenario does not materialize. Unfortunately, recent events confirm the information we have been receiving for many months, indicating that even the more adverse scenarios are possible, he added.

Tusk: The Russians are ready to use equipment more dangerous than before

Prime Minister Donald Tusk emphasized that he does not wish to succumb to a nervous atmosphere in any way, but there is no doubt that “we must be prepared for a joint response if necessary.”

The attacks of this night show that the Russians are ready to use equipment more dangerous than before. I am referring to jet drones. Their range and precision are concerning. Of course, Ukraine, which is very well prepared for defense against drones, is also not able to effectively counter them in one hundred percent, to put it mildly, Prime Minister Tusk said.

He reported that, according to Minister Tomczyk, a total of 13 locations on the Ukrainian side were hit. We must therefore be aware that Russia possesses such capabilities. Therefore, I will also expect information on how prepared we are for the potential use of drones and associated attempts to disrupt our operations—whether of railways or industrial facilities. I do not rule out that such situations may also occur here, the Prime Minister said.
