Police operation in Ceuta to evict migrant settlements near the desalination plant

Since the early hours of this morning, the National Police has been carrying out a special operation to evict migrants who are settled around the Ceuta desalination plant, due to the risk it poses to this facility.

As police sources have informed Efe, more than 300 troops are involved in the operation with the intention of building the settlements that have been built around this infrastructure, located next to Trampolín beach.

The migrants will be taken to the vicinity of the Guano Factory, located in the same area but far from the desalination plant.

The judicial process

Judge María Tardón will hear this week from the first witnesses in the case opened by the massive entry of migrants into Ceuta on July 30 and 31. Next Wednesday the president of Ceuta, Juan Jesús Vivas (PP), is summoned, and on Thursday the former chief of staff of the Government delegate, reports Efe.

Gonzalo Sanz, former chief of staff of Miguel Ángel Pérez Triano (PSOE), received a notice from the CNI one day before the mass entry and defends that he was transferred to the Delegation, which his superior denied and precipitated the resignation of this exalted position. Also on Thursday, the head of the Local Police of Ceuta is summoned as a witness.

Vivas will be the first witness to testify in the case opened in the National Court, where the judge seeks to clarify the entry of tens of thousands of migrants through the Ceuta border at the end of July, in which she sees "criminal conduct allegedly committed abroad that has seriously attacked the territorial integrity of Spain."
