Hacking of the tax system and National Education: Minister David Amiel presents his “apologies”

The Minister of Action and Public Accounts, David Amiel presented an “apology” on Tuesday for the hacking of the tax authorities, which resulted in the theft of the personal data of some 700,000 individuals and companies.

“Yes, we apologize, because what happened is unbearable for the French,” said the minister during a press conference in Bercy on the large-scale hacking of the General Directorate of Public Finances (DGFiP) at the end of June, claimed on August 12 by hackers.

National Education data also stolen

It should not be the only one to apologize, since the hackers who claimed to have stolen data from the tax authorities, also claim to have gotten their hands on the personal data of several million French students and tens of thousands of teachers, in a message published on a forum.

The hackers, presenting themselves as a French duo, ZeroBytes, claim to have been able to “absorb 346 million lines” of data, in a message posted Monday. They claim to have telephone numbers, email addresses and home addresses in particular, sometimes dating back to the 2000s.

The Ministry of National Education had already made public, on July 31, “the fraudulent intrusion of which it was the victim” on the night of July 25 and “the exfiltration of personal data that it may have resulted in”.
