Police arrest couple suspected of running a winning ticket scam in the South Zone of Rio

The victim said that, on the 2nd, she was walking along Gávea, in the South Zone of Rio de Janeiro, when a couple approached her. They claimed to have won R$10 million in the lottery, but claimed they could not receive the prize for religious reasons and offered to sell the ticket for R$60,000.

The woman said that, when she agreed to “buy the prize”, a car appeared and took her, along with the couple, to a bank branch in Copacabana, where she transferred the money.

After realizing that she had been the victim of a scam, the woman went to the 15th DP (Gávea) and registered a report. The agents analyzed images from security cameras, identified the vehicle used and began monitoring it.

This Monday, investigators received information that the car was once again traveling through the South Zone. With support from Civitas and Gabriel Imagens, a siege was mounted that ended with the vehicle being approached in Copacabana.

The agents found several lottery tickets and notes that, according to the investigation, indicate the scam was carried out.

The prisoners were charged with criminal association, but they paid bail and will be released.
