Polish volleyball: European Championship quarterfinals with Germany - history of matches and chances of advancement

In the quarterfinals, two well-known teams will meet, because not only do they often play against each other in international tournaments and friendly matches, but also many German players play or have played in the Polish top league.

For the last three seasons, the German-Italian coach Massimo Botti also worked there. First, he led Bogdanka LUK Lublin to the championship, three of which are currently in the Polish national team, and later he coached Asseco Resovia Rzeszów, including Artur Szalpuk.

The German team is weakened by the lack of injured setter Johannes Tille and receiver Moritz Karlitzek, and center Anton Brehme played with an injury in the 1/8 finals, but it still has its leaders - attacker Erik Roehrs and receiver Tobias Brand, known from the Polish league.

Two wins against Germany this season

Coach Nikola Grbic's players played against Germany twice this season and defeated them 3-1 in both games - first in the regular phase of the Nations League, and then in a friendly match.

These teams had already met in the European Championship at the quarterfinal stage - in 2019, the White and Reds won 3-0, and later won the bronze medal.

Tuesday's match starts at 18:00.

Italy is waiting

The co-organizers of the European Championship are Finland, Romania, Bulgaria, where the White and Reds play the knockout phase until the quarterfinals in Sofia, and Italy. If they win against the Germans, the Poles will move to Milan, where the decisive matches of the tournament will be played.
