Record financial prizes at the European Athletics Championships in Chorzów

What prizes and for whom?

The decision on such a high amount was approved by the European Athletics Council. For the first time, awards will be given not only to medalists or competitors with the most spectacular results, but also to all those from the top eight in each of the 50 competitions.

Individual European champions will receive EUR 30,000, silver medalists - EUR 15,000, and bronze medalists - EUR 10,000. Places 4-8 will receive five thousand, four, three, two and one thousand euros, respectively. In relay events, the money will be divided among team members.

This is a huge change compared to the European Championships in Rome in 2024 and Birmingham in 2026. Ten bonuses were awarded for outstanding results, each worth EUR 50,000.

This is supposed to be a memorable championship

We want to bring the best European track and field athletes to Silesia and create a championship that will remain in the memory of the players, the audience and the entire community for a long time - emphasized the president of European Athletics, Dobromir Karamarinow, quoted in the release of the Polish Athletics Association.

PZLA President Sebastian Chmara does not hide the fact that the European Championships in Chorzów is the flagship project of Polish athletics.

For the first time in history, Poland will host the most important stadium athletics competitions in Europe. Together with our partners, i.e. the local government of the Silesian Voivodeship and the Ministry of Sport and Tourism, we are doing everything to make the championship a great success both in organizational and sports terms, said Chmara.
