63-year-old hiker dies in a canal in the Tofane mountains

A 63-year-old hiker died today in the Tofane, west of Cortina d'Ampezzo, in the Belluno area, after falling into a canal.

The alarm came from the man's family, worried because they were no longer able to contact him, after the application that followed his itinerary indicated the position stopped at the same point. Once the carabinieri were alerted, the 118 call center was also activated and the Suem helicopter from Pieve di Cadore flew in the direction of Tofana di Dentro.

The hiker's body was identified in a canal under the path that leads from the crests of Cima Formenton to the Baracca degli Alpini bivouac, about seventy meters below. The doctors could not help but confirm his death and the body was recovered and transported to the Codivilla pitch, where the Cortina mountain rescue and Guardia di Finanza teams were waiting.
