Rick and Renner: trajectory of the country duo from formation in 1983 to return in 2018

Geraldo Antônio de Carvalho, known as Rick, was born in Porto Nacional (TO), on December 5, 1966. He moved with his family to Brasília at the age of six and started singing in bars at the age of nine, alongside one of his sisters, getting into trouble with the Juvenile Court due to his young age.

The duo Rick and Renner was formed in 1983. Rick's partner was Ivair Reis Gonçalves, known as Renner, born in Brasília on November 19, 1971.

Renner started singing rock at the age of 14. At 16, he became a father and started to help support his family with the money he earned from music.

Rick and Renner began their careers performing in bars and even recorded an independent LP. The duo received help from Zezé Di Camargo and Luciano, who introduced them to producer Manoel Nenzinho Pinto.

The partnership paved the way for the recording of the first album on the Continental label. Among the album's highlights were songs such as "Preciso te FIND", "Você Decide", "Olhando nos Teus Olhos", "Mal de Amor" and "A Gente Semper Compre".

After their first job, the two moved to São Paulo to continue their artistic career.

The big leap came in 1998, with the album Mil Vezes Cantarei, which brought "Ela é Demais", the main hit of the duo's career. The song remained on the charts for five consecutive months and became one of the greatest symbols of the singers' career.

The following year, the album Instante Mágico further expanded Rick and Renner's popularity, with hits such as "Muleca", "Cara-de-Pau", "Fim de Semana" and "Na Pontinha do Pé", the latter featuring the group Molejo.

In the following years, Rick and Renner maintained a sequence of releases and performances across the country. In 2003, to celebrate a decade of career, the duo released an acoustic album that brought together some of their main hits, including "Ela é Demais", "O Amor e Eu" and "Paixão de Peão". In the same year, the singers also released the first DVD of their career.

By 2007, Rick and Renner had sold more than 7 million records and performed, on average, 150 shows per year. The sequence of works kept the duo among the prominent names in Brazilian country music, while "Ela é Demais" remained one of the main hits and highlights of their careers.

At the end of 2010, Rick and Renner announced the end of the duo, after a 25-year trajectory. At that point, the two had released 16 CDs and two DVDs.

After 8 years apart, the duo returned to work together in 2018. Upon resumption, they released the CD "Seguir em Frente", through Radar Records, and began a tour with the same name.

The album brought together Rick's compositions, including "Eu Mereço", "Filha", "Esse Amor é Você", "Nos Bares da Cidade" and "Como Assim".

Among them were the lives "In favor of the State of Maranhão", which raised money and basic food baskets through donations, and "At Home". Together, the broadcasts exceeded 4 million hits.
