Russian envoy Dmitriev is scheduled to meet with Trump administration representatives in New York

According to Reuters, Dmitriev's visit was agreed with Russian President Vladimir Putin. It is to be held in New York, on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly session.

Two sources familiar with preparations for the talks told the agency that the Russian representative would meet with representatives of US President Donald Trump's administration, including Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.

The visit is intended to be a continuation of the talks held at the Kremlin by Vladimir Putin and representatives of the United States at the beginning of the month.

One of Reuters' sources said that the purpose of Dmitriev's visit is to maintain dialogue between Russia and the US and further efforts towards the peace process.

During the meeting of the UN Security Council, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov announced that Russia does not intend to interrupt the "special military operation" for the duration of any negotiations.

Who is Putin's special envoy?

Since 2011, Dmitriev has headed the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), a state institution established to attract foreign capital to Russia. After the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine began, he found himself on the sanctions lists of the United States and the European Union.

In February 2025, Vladimir Putin appointed him special representative for investments and foreign economic cooperation. The nomination came a few days after talks between Russian and US representatives in Riyadh, in which Dmitriev participated.

Kirill Dmitriev was born in Kiev, although in public statements he emphasized that he was born in the Soviet Union. He is a graduate of Stanford University.

According to RDIF's official biography, after graduation he worked at Goldman Sachs bank and McKinsey consulting company. Later he developed his career in Russia and Ukraine. In Moscow, he was associated with the Delta Private Equity Partners fund, and in Ukraine, he managed a fund belonging to the son-in-law of former president Leonid Kuchma.

His business experience is said to be one of the reasons why the Kremlin uses him in talks regarding economic relations with foreign countries.

The envoy was to play the role of an intermediary in contacts with the American administration already during Donald Trump's first term. The media then reported on his relationship with Jared Kushner - Trump's son-in-law and husband of Ivanka Trump.
