The criminal operation of illegal hazardous waste dumps was dismantled

According to investigators' findings, criminals collected waste from 63 different producers and stored it, among others, in the province. Silesia in places not intended for this purpose, exposing people and the environment to serious danger.

During the proceedings, the police determined that the criminal activity covered the entire country. Hazardous waste from 63 producers was sent to 26 illegal landfills, located, among others, in Rejków, Nowa Piasecznica, Janów, Jasieniec and Sarnów - said the officers.

Among the things discovered at illegal landfills were: pallet containers and barrels filled with the so-called concentrated red water, which is a residue from the production of TNT. This is an extremely dangerous type of waste, and its improper storage can lead to serious health and environmental hazards.

The 12 defendants include people aged 28 to 69, mainly residents of the Masovian Voivodeship. Six of them were temporarily arrested, and other preventive measures were taken against the rest. The allegations include, among others: creation and filling of 26 illegal landfills with hazardous waste. They face a penalty of up to 15 years in prison.

Investigators emphasize that the problem of the so-called The garbage mafia is a serious threat to the environment. Instead of disposing of waste in specialized plants, criminals abandon it in forests, wasteland or in rented halls. Toxic substances can penetrate soil and groundwater, causing irreversible damage.
