Salone del Gusto: Sergio Mattarella inaugurates the 2026 edition in Turin

The President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, will inaugurate the Salone del Gusto, in the center of Turin from 24 to 27 September: the head of state will meet the over 1,500 Terra Madre delegates, arriving from 120 countries to discuss the topic of biodiversity. Organized by Slow Food, the City of Turin and the Piedmont Region, with the patronage of the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ismea, Terra Madre 2026 celebrates 40 years of Slow Food Italia, in the name of the memory and cultural and political legacy of the founder Carlo Petrini.

"Serious things last over time, Carlin Petrini's vision was truly far-sighted. He would have been happy with this edition of the event. There is a very strong bond between Terra Madre and the city: this event allows us to meet people who come from many parts of the world with their cultures and traditions. Turin is proud to be the place where different cultures meet. Another element of pride is the presence of President Mattarella, one of the greatest presidents we have had, but also a great friend of our city" said the mayor of Turin, Stefano Lo Russo.

"Petrini is not physically present, but he continues to be there with his smile. We are thrilled to meet again the President of the Republic, whom Piedmont has always loved, a presence that we like to associate with that of the Prime Minister in Risò: it is proof that the events of Piedmont are among the most important in Italy. We have restored centrality to this region" stated the President of the Piedmont Region, Alberto Cirio. "Terra Madre is an educational event - he added - and it is no coincidence that we present it on the opening day of schools. We must transmit values ​​and principles to young people where all cultures are welcome in a climate of mutual respect".

The event will be held for the first time in the center of Turin, from Piazza Carlo Felice to Piazza Vittorio Veneto, passing through the renovated Via Roma, Piazza San Carlo, Piazza Carlo Alberto, Piazza Castello and Palazzo Reale. 1,000 events, 200 conferences, more than 120 appointments are planned, many already sold out. Over 130 Slow Food Presidia from Italy and abroad, 12 making their debut. More than 500 volunteers will participate.
