Sánchez accuses Morocco of failure in border control during the Ceuta crisis and calls for corrective measures

The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, has pointed out for the first time very clearly the responsibility of Morocco in the failure to control the border with the city of Ceuta on July 30 and 31 and the need to correct it. Sánchez has assured that Spain has asked Rabat for measures to resolve this problem. The statements were made in New York, in an interview with CNN. Asked about the crisis in Ceuta, which journalist Christiane Amanpour has described as a “disaster”, he has claimed the good relationship with Morocco but has also said that Spain has “asked for answers and actions from Morocco because it is evident that its border control failed”. Sánchez has also complained about the “lack of solidarity of several European governments” during the Ceuta crisis, and recalled that Spain did show solidarity in other migration crises in other European countries.

Amanpour has told him that the declassified documents show that they were alerted to what was coming, and Sánchez has denied it. "No, in reality those documents show that there was no clear evidence that something like this was going to happen. We are investigating it, but at the same time we have asked Morocco for actions and responses. It is clear that its border control failed. But we have to have a good relationship with Morocco, and we have to return to this country the majority of the immigrants who are from there.
