Snapchat gives green light to time restrictions for young users

In his interview with the BBC, Spiegel evaluated the social media platform Snapchat within the company.

Asked whether Meta agreed with the call for default time restrictions on social media platforms for young users, Spiegel expressed that they were willing to implement this measure on Snapchat.

Spiegel said that they discussed this issue within the company, but could not share details yet, and said, "I think this is a forward step to determine industry norms. I think it will be beneficial in general." he said.

Meta reached a settlement on August 26 in the lawsuit filed in the USA, accusing social media platforms of "damaging the mental health of children".

In the settlement petition, it was stated that Meta committed to impose daily usage limits and restrictions preventing nightly use for young users of social media platforms, to implement enhanced age verification measures to prevent children from accessing the platform or age-restricted content on the platform, and to require the use of additional tools to help parents and guardians protect their children online.
