Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and Pakistan held an urgent, high-level meeting within the scope of the Mecca Joint Defense Agreement in response to the attacks of the Houthis in Yemen.
Chief of General Staff Selçuk Bayraktaroğlu is going to Saudi Arabia for the Mecca Alliance meeting. Bayraktaroğlu met with the chiefs of general staff of Saudi Arabia and Pakistan in Riyadh.
In the statement made on the virtual media account of the Turkish Armed Forces, it was stated that "Chief of General Staff General Selçuk Bayraktaroğlu attended the meeting held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, within the scope of the Mecca Joint Defense Agreement signed between Turkey, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, together with the Commander of the Pakistan Defense Forces and Land Forces, Marshal Syed Asim Munir, and the Chief of General Staff of Saudi Arabia, General Fayyadh Bin Hamed Al-Ruwaili."
HOUTHI ATTACKS ON SAUDI ARABIA CONTINUES
Houthi, which dominates most of Yemen, announced yesterday that they carried out dozens of missile and unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) attacks on targets in Saudi Arabia.
Saudi officials stated that they intercepted six ballistic missiles fired by Houthi fighters.
FOREIGN MINISTERS CAME TOGETHER
Minister of Foreign Affairs Hakan Fidan attended the Mecca Agreement for Common Defense Foreign Ministers Meeting in New York, where he went to the 81st UN General Assembly.
Minister Fidan met with Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Ferhan Al Saud and Pakistani Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ishak Dar. At the meeting, the latest point of the negotiations was evaluated.
In the statement made by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia, "Ministers discussed the preparations for the chiefs of general staff to meet as soon as possible to discuss ways to support Saudi Arabia within the scope of the Mecca Joint Defense Agreement, where it is accepted that an attack on one country is an attack on all countries." It was said.
THE MECCA ALLIANCE WAS ASKED ABOUT IN NTV BROADCAST
Minister Fidan made important statements on the issue in the NTV live broadcast he attended on September 19. Fidan said that the Mecca Alliance could respond to military needs in the conflicts with the Houthis in Saudi Arabia.
When asked whether the Mecca Alliance would step in after Houthi's attacks on Saudi Arabia, he said, "We see that there are very serious attacks on the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Saudi Arabia. There is an alliance agreement in our agreement, we are true to our word. We are in solidarity on this issue. As the Mecca Alliance, we follow it closely. Their military needs may be especially in certain technical issues. We will not have any problems in meeting this." he replied.
"A STRONG STEP IN THE RIGHT PATH"
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan met with journalists at the Turkevi in New York, where he was attending the United Nations General Assembly, on September 24 and made evaluations. Here, he was also asked about the future of the Mecca Defense Agreement.
Regarding the issue, President Erdoğan said, "The Mecca Defense Agreement is a strong step taken in the right direction. If you are making such an important initiative in such a difficult geography, it is not surprising that you will encounter some tests. If you say something new, if you put forward a new will, of course there will be those who will be disturbed by it. We are not a state established yesterday; we are a state that is experienced enough not to fall into provocations or fall into a trap. I have no doubt that we will move forward on our path stronger with the completion of institutionalization works. We have a basis that will produce regional solutions to the problems of the region."
