Świątek defeats Podoroska in the second round of the US Open

The Pole looked confident from the beginning of the match and used her opportunities effectively. Świątek won the first set 6:3, and in the second set she gave up only two games to her opponent.

Świątek and Podoroska last faced each other in the fall of 2020 in the semifinals of the French Open, which was then postponed due to the pandemic. The Pole won that match without any major problems and later won her first Grand Slam title.

In the following years, Świątek won further Grand Slam trophies and was the leader of the world ranking for 125 weeks. However, the Argentine's career was hampered by injuries. She is currently ranked 449th on the WTA list, and she played in the US Open thanks to a frozen ranking.

In the third round, Świątek will face Marie Bouzkova. The Czech tennis player, seeded number 25, defeated the British Harriet Dart 6:2, 6:2.

Świątek remains the only Polish representative in the singles competition at the New York tournament. Maja Chwalińska, Magdalena Fręch and Magda Linette were eliminated in the first round.
