'Historic' meeting between Trump and Rodriguez

In his post on the social media platform of US-based company X, Rodriguez described the meeting held within the scope of the 81st General Assembly of the United Nations (UN) as "historic".

Stating that they talked with Trump about strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries and advancing the cooperation agenda in strategic areas such as energy, mining and security, Rodriguez thanked Trump for the support given by the US administration after the earthquakes in his country.

Rodriguez also expressed his gratitude to Washington for its support for Venezuela's "reintegration process into multilateral platforms" and noted that relations between Caracas and Washington should be advanced through dialogue.

The meeting between the two was the first direct contact between Trump and Rodriguez after the detention of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro in the US military intervention on January 3.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Trump's Private Secretary Susie Wiles and Deputy Secretary General Stephen Miller also attended the meeting, which was held closed to the press.

One of the important steps in the recent rapprochement between Washington and Caracas was the energy agreement announced in August.

Within the scope of the agreement, 100-year concessions are envisaged for the USA for 17 oil fields in Venezuela, covering approximately 65 billion barrels of proven reserves.
